Thanks for bee-ing a
1H Volunteer!
Thank you for taking the time to read these guidelines. We hope you enjoy your time volunteering in 1H. Here are some things to keep in mind while working in our classroom...
*Please try to be on time. Our schedule is very tight, and we need to make the most of every minute!

*If for any reason you are unable to come, please call the office and leave me a message. If you know a few days in advance, please call our Room Representative so that we may schedule a replacement.

*In most cases, it is best to find care for younger siblings rather than bring them into the classroom. If you are unable to find care for younger siblings, and you are only scheduled for a short time (ie- Guest Reader), I don't mind if you bring them. However, if they get out of hand you may need to remove them from the classroom. Remember, your presence in the classroom is very important to your first grader and they appreciate your undivided attention. Younger siblings are not permitted on field trips.

*You will be working with many children while volunteering in our classroom. Please remember that it is not appropriate to discuss a particular child's strengths, weaknesses, behavior, work habits, personality, or any other issue, with anyone else. Each child is entitled to a safe and private working environment.

*At all times in our classroom, the teacher is in charge and will have the final word in any instance. If you have a question or concern about the way something is handled please feel free to discuss it with me at a later time.

*Please know that during the school day, my main concern is my students and their well-being. Consequently, I am unable to get into lengthy discussions about particular students during instructional time. Many thanks for your understanding.

*Some children have a difficult time maintaining appropriate behavior or separating when their parents volunteer. It may be wise to discuss these things with your child the night before you come into the classroom.

*Volunteering in first grade can be messy! Please dress appropriately.

*Remember to smile and have fun! You are doing a wonderful thing for your child and for our class!
