Welcome to first grade in 1H! I am very happy to be your child's first grade teacher. The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for me. I am full of anticipation and deeply grateful to have the opportunity to work with all of you and your new first graders.

This website is my main method of communication with you. I will frequently update this site so that you can stay in touch with what your first grader is doing. It is important that you join the mailing list in order to be notified of updates. Be sure to bookmark this site, and tell your friends and families about it, too! Of course, this will not be my only means of communication. I will be sending notes, letters and reminders home periodically, as well as contacting you by phone. Please feel free to email me anytime. I check my email every evening. You will find the "Join our Mailing List" and "Email Mrs. Healey" buttons on the Home Page of this site. I also look forward to meeting all of you at Open House in early September.

First grade is an important and exciting time in your child's life. We have so much to do each day, you may find that your new first grader will be extremely tired and irritable in the first few weeks of school. It is a long and busy day. Rest assured that your child will soon get used to the pace. I would encourage you however, to limit after-school activities and play dates, especially early in the year. It is also important to be sure your child gets a good night's sleep every night and a healthy breakfast before school each day.

It is suggested that your child bring certain supplies in to school to keep them organized. If you would like to get a early start, please check the recommended supply list on this site. For the first day, all your child will need is their backpack, lunch, two healthy snacks and the assignment that was mailed to them.

Please be sure to read my philosophy, as it will give you a good indication of my hopes and expectations for the year. Look around on this web site and let me know what you think! You should be able to get a lot of your questions answered here. Also, I will be putting some of the children's work up very soon, so that should make for some fun Web surfing!
