The beginning of our month was extremely exciting, as we were very focused on the Presedential election. Before the election, we looked at a map of the United States, and colored it in according to which states were "red states," which were "blue states" and the colored the "swing states" yellow. We brought our maps home so while watched the election on TV we could compare the maps on the news to the ones we had created. This helped us follow along as the election results came in!

The day after the election, we created a new map with the actual voting results. It was fun to compare the predictions with the real results, and to see which way the swing states actually went. We even counted up the Electoral votes!

During the month, we were as busy as ever with our reading, writing and math. We are working very independently now, and helping each other to reach our goals. It's nice to know we can count on each other!
Of course we were also busy getting ready for Thanksgiving with our families. We read many fantastic books about being thankful, Thanksgiving, and family. We also read many wonderful Native American Folk Tales in November. For one homework assignment, we created family menus for our Thanksgiving dinners. We interviewed the family members who would be cooking for us, to create a menu of all the yummy foods we would be eating with our families. Our menus were beautiful and delicious!
We also took some time to create "Thankful Boxes" for Thanksgiving with our families. We decorated the boxes and put cards inside them, so at Thanksgiving dinner everyone in our family could write down something they are thankful for and put it in the box. We can use this box every year to remember all the things for which we are thankful!
We ended our month with a wonderful "Friendship Party" in 1H! Thanks to our creative and caring 1H Parents, we made totally cute "Thankful Turkeys"! On each of the turkey's tail feathers we wrote down things for which we are thankful. Our turkeys were beautiful, and each one was as unique as their creators. We're sure our families enjoyed reading our "Thankful Turkeys".

While we were working on our turkeys, we went out into the hallway in groups to work on our 1H Scarecrow! You can read all about the amazing scarecrow we made at the "Special Days" section of this site!

We also enjoyed a totally yummy and healthy treats at our Friendship party. We always have fun when we are together!

At this time of year it is important that we reflect on all the good things in our lives and all of the reasons for which we are thankful. I am extremely thankful to all of our 1H parents who do so much for me every day, and for the children they share with me.
